The Massimo Standard Room—a simple yet romantic double room overlooking the historic center, specifically Via Roma—is located on the top floor of the building. It is bright and cozy, furnished with a comfortable double bed, an armchair, and a wardrobe that houses a small minibar. The room also features a private bathroom with a shower.

Looking back at the history of the Massimo or De Massimi family, historical sources record the sale of Prossedi by Alessandro Chigi to Luca Massimo on April 9, 1544. On August 18, 1565, the Massimo brothers—Lelio, Pompeo, Carlo, and Ascanio—inherited their father’s estate.

The Massimo family was one of the oldest princely families, tracing its origins to the Gens Fabia, an ancient Roman patrician family that comprised several branches; the most illustrious of these was that of the Fabii Massimi, who took their cognomen from the Ara Massima of Hercules, near which they had their residence.

During the period when Prossedi was owned by the Marquises of Casa Massimo, one event stands out in particular: the poisoning of Luca in 1599 by his brother Marcantonio. During the trial, it emerged that Marcantonio had killed his brother because the latter would not allow him to go to Prossedi “to look after his affairs.” Luca Massimo had a mistress in the town, Francesca De Brandis, with whom he had fathered illegitimate children.

In 1673, Monsignor Giovanni Battista de Massimi bequeathed Prossedi to his mother, Caterina, who in turn left it to her daughter, Anna. Since Anna had no heirs and was the sole surviving member of the Massimo family, she named her nephew, Cardinal Lorenzo Altieri, as her heir in 1676.
